At present in the UK 51% of citizens own and use a SMARTPHONE. 95% of ALL smartphone users have researched a product on their phone. Habitually smartphone users will look up Accommodation, Pricing in Shops, Locations, Transport, Entertainment, People... as well as Facebook and Twitter.
The complete statistics are available at the bottom of the page : Mobile Phone Statistics for the UK
Use of Mobiles is only ONE mobile sector as Tablets gain a foothold in the marketplace with ONE IN FOUR Americans owning a tablet at the beginning of 2013. The stats in the UK are lower however estimates show that it is greater than 1 in 10 persons and growing rapidly.
HOWEVER the common barrier to purchasing or researching on a mobile device is the not the security or complexity ... its the tiny screen and the difficulty in coping with tiny buttons and tiny text. That is why Calco have developed a range of RESPONSIVE DESIGN websites that work WITH small screens in producing an experience for the user that requires a minimum of zooming in and out and yet still looks great on a huse computer monitor or TV.
Here is the same (responsive design) website viewed on 3 devices.

Below you can see the benefits of a phone friendly menu versus a traditional tab based navigation. Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 are exactly the same website but Fig. 1 is viewed on a Personal Computer, whereas Fig.2 is viewed on a smartphone.

We also use PLAIN TEXT in the headers with the BRAND which will increase your Search Engine (SEO) potential.
Smartphone User Statistics
Why should I care about phone statistics?
Simply put.. if your website isnt responsive, then there is a good chance people who use tablets, mobiles or cell phones wont like your website. Because either they wont be able to navigate it, or equally unpleasant; they will continually make the page bigger to read the text and smaller again to find links and scroll bars. They will not be able to form an good impression of your company and its products.
Its a good idea then to know just how many people you are irritating.
At present in the UK 71% of citizens own and use a SMARTPHONE. Of those 59% use their smartphone on the internet EVERY day and 95% of ALL smartphone users have researched a product which they later buy on their phone. Habitually smartphone users will look up Accommodation, Pricing in Shops, Locations, Transport, Entertainment, People... as well as Facebook and Twitter. You can pay for goods or uniquely identify yourself to on-line services with a smartphone. The trend of internet use is UPWARD and DOESNT depend on WiFi as 3G provides mobiles with a signal in MOST of the UK and almost all urban locations.
